Queen Raising with Jim Pearson
This year, as well as running our usual taster and training days we are also packing our calendar with improver sessions for all of our members on a variety of subjects. Some of these session are led by our own members and some are led by guests from other beekeeping associations. On Sunday 29th May we were fortunate to have Jim Pearson, Master Beekeeper from Wakefield and Pontefract Beekeepers Association, visit our apiary and lead a session on raising your own queens. Raising queens is an important skill to learn for any beekeeper. Locally adapted bees raised from good stock with a pleasant temperament are worth striving for. Many thanks to Jim for coming and sharing his knowledge on raising new queens.
